About John

My coursework at the Scripps-Howard School of Journalism at Ohio University and hands-on experience with several area newspapers laid the groundwork for my arrival at Patch in 2010. Whether it’s breaking news, government coverage, school updates, business features or stories with a human touch, I'll bring readers the news they can care about. Catch me here daily. It’s never too late for good news.

The bullet points

I spend a good deal of time with family and friends; and despite the freezing weather, I try to take advantage of the hiking opportunities Summit County has to offer. I really dig the switchback trails through Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

I'm a huge Cleveland sports fan, and I don't buy into all the heartache. Like Shoeless Joe stepping out from the Iowa corn, victory will reemerge in Cleveland.

I just moved from Stow to Fairlawn, my wife and I are expecting our first child, and no day is the same at Patch -- all good things.

Our little daughter, Ava May, is due on April 23; so don't be surprised when I update this section to discuss the wonders of fatherhood. Any parental advice would be appreciated.

I look forward to the year ahead and the next set of exciting challenges and experiences it brings.

Your beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

You delete my post, and leave that other guy's repeated garbage up there?

You got strange ideas, dude.
