Cuyahoga Falls officials have remained mum on the details of the proposed retail project; however, Cinemark's website could offer a big clue on what's to come.
Under the "Grand Openings" section of its website, Cinemark has posted news that a 10-screen movie theatre is headed to Cuyahoga Falls. Could this be the same theatre city officials alluded to during a Nov. 19 City Council meeting? Cuyahoga Falls Development Director Sue Truby and Cinemark couldn't be reached Friday to offer a definitive answer. Over the last several weeks, Mayor Don Robart and his staff have remained mum on Portage Crossing as they work with developer Bob Stark, of Stark Enterprises, to finalize the proposed $60 million retail project. However, Robart did recently indicate an announcement may come sometime in December. Read on: Portage Crossing Announcement Delayed; Menards Reportedly Stricken From Contract

Dear Future Mayor of Cuyahoga Falls, With the celebration of our city’s 200th anniversary underway, I reflect upon the time of our 175th anniversary, a mere 25 years ago. My, have we grown! In 1986, we successfully merged all of our services with Northampton Township, now Ward 8. Residents of both communities had a vision for a greater tomorrow and from that day on, this merger has allowed our City to grow by expanding our housing stock and providing additional industrial space for our businesses to grow and relocate. We were the first two communities to merge, thus making Ohio history. In the last 25 years, our city has experienced over a billion dollars of new development! From our top-ranked Water Works Aquatic Center, Brookledge Golf …

Depending on the terms of the grant set forth by the federal government, the city may or may not accept the money.

The bad news is, the department may not be able to accept the grant due to certain directives that may come down from the federal government concerning the period of time in which the money must be spent. In previous years, grants such as these would run on a five-year cycle where the government would pay for the first four years of a new firefighter’s salary and the city would cover the fifth year, according to Cuyahoga Falls Assistant Fire Chief Fred Jackson. This year, the cycle might switch to three years, meaning the department may have to absorb the salaries…

I don't see this on Cinemark's site anymore. And although I am sad to see Plaza close; it wasn't a good theater. Sound systems were poorly maintained, would cut out or even buzz. Screen sizes were small and not clear. I drive to the Cinemark in Macedonia when seeing movies where they benefit from a nice big clear/sharp screen and clean surround sound. For a comedy or drama, I'm happy with Regal. …   more ›
