Young Entrepreneurs Have Sights Set on New Downtown Bar This Summer

Donald Powell and Christopher Sedlock plan to open a bar along the riverfront this summer

The Falls River Square District will welcome a new restaurant and bar come this summer. Business partners Christopher Sedlock and Donald Powell are keeping the name under wraps for now, but they were more than willing to share their vision for the business that'll open at 2152 Front St. "Down here it’s low-key. It’s a sort of all-American feel," Powell said of the riverfront area. "So it’s not going to be dressy. It’s going to be a bar-slash-tavern. We’ll focus on having a one-page menu, eight to 10 quality items that we can be known for, that we can focus on.” The business will stress "customer service, professionalism and promptness," but the real emphasis will be on the food, which will include burgers, steaks, pizza and other finger …

Ice Carving, Skating Draws Residents to Frozen River Festival

Despite the freezing temps this weekend, the annual Cuyahoga Falls winter festival was a success.

The 2013 Cuyahoga Falls Frozen River Festival drew scores of residents down to Falls River Square over the weekend.  Jennifer Syx, deputy director of development for the city, said the annual event has been growing in recent years, and is part of an effort to offer quality events all year round for residents to enjoy. From Friday to Sunday, the public sampled beer and wine from local businesses in the Pavilion, laced up their skates for a few trips around the rink and watched students from the University of Akron Culinary Arts program carve elaborate ice sculptures.  “The carvings are incredible,” Syx said. Cuyahoga Falls Supports Domestic Violence Awareness Month

City officials have partnered with the Battered Women's Shelter of Summit & Medina Counties for the month of October to help combat the rampant crime.

The City of Cuyahoga Falls has partnered with the Battered Women's Shelter to support domestic violence awareness for the month of October.  According to Jennifer Syx, the city's deputy development director, the city has installed purple lights at the Falls River Square clock tower as purple is recognized as the international color of domestic violence.  "Right now, (the clock tower) is a place for people to gather, reflect and pray," said Syx. Syx has been working with Battered Women's Shelter of Summit and Medina County volunteer Brian Del Bianco to organize the partnership and she says there's tentative plans "to hold a vigil or campaign event." Residents are encouraged to shine purple lights from their homes or front porches to support…

I have been going to the octoberfest since I moved here 20 years ago. I went last night (Friday) and was appalled how there was a serious lack of German Food. Italian food at an Octoberfest? It was a lot better then it has been for the last 4-5 years. Only two places that had ANY German food. Very sad.   more ›
