Is State Road a Problem Area in Cuyahoga Falls?

Cuyahoga Falls Patch readers say yes! Find out what people have been talking about after several police reports from the State Road area in the last two weeks.

Over the last couple weeks, the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department has reported several crimes ranging from armed robbery to attempted kidnapping and rape at businesses on State Road.  As Patch reported the stories and shared them on its Facebook page, readers weighed in and they are worried.  1. PIZZA HUT NEARLY ROBBED The first recent incident on State Road was when the Pizza Hut was nearly robbed by two men with a gun. The incident is concerning for obvious reasons, but readers were mostly worried about, angry and intrigued about the fact that the manager reportedly locked himself inside and left the two employees outside with the gunmen.  "That manager sure was a hero...*eye roll*," said Doug Burley on the Facebook page.  2. Daytime Burglary; Costly Vandalism; and Bank Account Theft

The following was pulled from Cuyahoga Falls Police reports dated Oct. 18-21. It does not indicate a conviction.

Better lock your doors At 5 p.m. on Oct. 21, a burglar snuck into a resident's unlocked home in the 1800 block of Bailey Road and swiped a 32" flat panel TV. Total loss: $400. There are no suspects. $1,000 bank theft A Falls woman called Cuyahoga Falls Police on Oct. 20 after someone lifted $968 from her bank account. The thief apparently stole the woman's ATM card and a personal check to access her account. The woman wishes to prosecute if the crook is caught. Costly vandalism Ralph Moore, Quartermaster of VFW Post 1062, called police on Oct. 18 after someone yanked an exterior central air line out of the wall of the local community hub. As a result, the entire air conditioning unit needed to be placed. Total loss: $7,300. There are no …

Man Caught Defecating in Public; Busted Best Buy Thief; and Meth Lab Found in Backpack

The following was pulled from Cuyahoga Falls Police reports dated Oct. 15-18. It does not indicate a conviction.

Compact meth lab discovered A mini meth lab was found in a backpack along a Gorge Metro Park trail on Oct. 18. The bag contained plastic bottles, tubing and chemicals. The Cuyahoga Falls Police Narcotics Unit was called to the scene and is investigating the incident. He was caught doing what? On Oct. 17, Portage Towers employees set up somewhat of a sting operation to try and catch a man whom they believed was engaging in unlawful behavior in the apartment complex. A hidden surveillance camera was set up in the vending area, and the man was caught, well, brown-handed as he relieved his bowels in the middle of the refreshment room. Given the indisputable footage, the Canton man was arrested by Falls Police and charged with public indecency…

Cuyahoga Falls Residents Turn Against Unruly Neighbors

According to police reports and accounts from neighbors, it appears a couple living in the 1200 block of Gaylan Drive has worn out their welcome.

A resident in the 1200 block of Gaylan Drive called police after waking up to screaming and slamming noises on Oct. 16 at 2:30 a.m.  As it turns out, a neighbor down the road started play fighting with his houseguest, and things got physical. Several cruisers and an ambulance responded, according to a nearby resident who asked not to be identified. When officers entered the home, they found shattered glass, blood splattered, the two men, a woman and a baby. The woman and baby left and police allowed the two men to stay inside the house. Five minutes later, the yelling picked back up and police returned to the house. This time, the unruly brawlers turned silent, refused to answer the door and remained quiet for the rest of the night. Fake Guns Mistaken for Real Weapons at Cuyahoga Falls High School: Falls Police Blotter

Cleaned out A Johnson Avenue resident called Cuyahoga Falls Police on Oct. 10 after someone drained $600 from his bank account. All the purchases appear to have been made online. There are no leads or suspects.  Dangerous prank Two adults and a teenage kid were temporarily detained after pointing fake guns at Cuyahoga Falls High School from across Stow Avenue. A Board of Education employee spotted the trio, mistook the guns for the real thing and immediately called police on Oct. 9 at 11:35 a.m. Officers quickly caught up with the hooligans and cited each of them for disorderly conduct.

Woman Strips in Lobby, Gets Arrested on Multiple Charges: Falls Police Blotter

Crazed exhibitionist  A 21-year-old Cuyahoga Falls woman was hit with a slew of citations on Oct. 10 after wreaking havoc at a local retirement center. Here’s the play-by-play: The young woman had taken a taxi to visit her sister at the facility, but couldn’t pay the fare. She met with her sister in the parking lot, began arguing with her, and reportedly started striking her sibling in front of the cab driver. She then damaged a large front window of the building, walked into the lobby and stripped naked. By the time Cuyahoga Falls Police arrived, the woman had put her clothes back on, and was yelling profanities and taunting employees. When searched, police found she was in possession of marijuana, a glass pipe and a razor blade. She was …

Why not to burglarize a vacant home A property owner called Cuyahoga Falls Police on Oct. 8 after one of his vacant Northampton Road homes was burglarized. The burglar, most likely aware of the slim pickings, only came away with $300 in silverware and toilet paper. There are no suspects in this steak knife, Charmin caper. Seen my TV? A woman living in the 2200 block of High Street called police on Oct. 8 after someone swiped her 42-inch Vizio flat panel TV. Total loss: $700. Police have a suspect and the woman intends to prosecute. Purse snatching On Oct. 7, a motorist pulled up to a woman standing in the Studio City parking lot and asked for directions. Busted behind the wheel While cruising at night in one's 1987 Cadillac, it's probably better to leave the booze and drugs at home. That being said, a "Caddy man" was pulled over on Oct. 6 at 12:46 a.m. by Cuyahoga Falls Police and was found to be in possession of an open bottle of liquor, a glass pipe and a bag of marijuana. The man was cited with open container, drug abuse and drug paraphernalia and has been summoned to Stow Municipal Court.  Violent stalker A 32-year-old Falls man filed a police report on Oct. 4 following a violent encounter with his ex-girlfriend, who, he claims, has been stalking him for the past month. Time to buy a lockbox A Huff Drive resident called Cuyahoga Falls Police after realizing someone had stolen his gold Rolex watch from the one place you should never hide your valuables: a bedroom dresser.  Estimated loss: $25,000. There are no leads or suspects. Heroin OD A man was cited with drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony; and drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor, after overdosing on the 2400 block of Northland Street. Police reported the man was in possession of heroin, a syringe and a burnt spoon. Sticky fingers A woman called police after cash and a cell phone were stolen from the trunk of her car parked along South Hidden Valley Road. Estimated loss: $1,100. Heroin Junkie Nabbed; Aggravated Menacing; and Mischievous Motorist: Falls Police Blotter

Prescott junkie A woman was stopped on the 3500 block of East Prescott Circle on Sept. 30 and subsequently arrested after officers found she was in possession of heroin, syringes, a burnt spoon and a marijuana cigarette. She was charged with drug abuse, drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Aggravated menacing A Peninsula man was arrested and charged with aggravated menacing after he allegedly threatened to bludgeon a man with a claw hammer during a fistfight at the Moose Lodge on Sept. 30.
