Attempted robbery? On April 14 at about 2:20 a.m., a 19-year-old Kent man was about to make an after hours deposit at the State Road PNC Bank when he noticed two men in ski masks running past the bank's drive-thru area. The man, startled by the suspected robbers, drove across State Road and called 911; however, officers were unable to locate the pair, according to a Cuyahoga Falls police report. Masked Man Attempts Papa John's Robbery, Fails No money was taken from the bank or other nearby businesses, there are no suspects or leads and no weapon was seen. David Dougherty has quite the case stacked against him given the weapons cache discovered in his Cuyahoga Falls home on Oct. 20. On Wednesday morning, a four-count indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury charging Dougherty with possessing five pipe bombs, a silencer, a STEN 9mm submachine gun (with no serial number) and marijuana, said United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach. According to the indictment, the makeshift explosives found in Dougherty's Washington Avenue home were comprised of pipes, end caps, explosive powder and pyrotechnic fuses. The case against pipe bomb suspect David A. Dougherty only seems to be getting stronger as Cuyahoga Falls Police hit him with additional felony counts and charges this week. Dougherty, 41, of Cuyahoga Falls, now faces two counts of possession of criminal tools, trafficking in drugs, weapons while under disability and three counts of possession of dangerous ordnance (explosives), according to stowmunicourt.com. He is also charged with illegal manufacturing of drugs, a fourth-degree misdemeanor; after police found a suspected marijuana grow operation in his residence. Dougherty, 41, of Cuyahoga Falls, was arrested Saturday after the Summit County Bomb Squad found five pipe bombs and bomb making materials in his home, located at 1116 Washington Ave. Dougherty was charged with unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance, a fifth-degree Felony; and illegal manufacturing or processing explosives, a second-degree felony, according to Cuyahoga Falls Police Lt.
