String of Burglaries Reported in Cuyahoga Falls

The following was supplied by the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Four burglaries, a breaking and entering incident and a gun theft were reported in Cuyahoga Falls last week alone. Here's what's known, according to Cuyahoga Falls police reports: March 27, 8:02 a.m. One or more burglars reportedly smashed through the front door of the Cuttin It Up beauty salon on Bailey Road and broke open a charity box located inside the store. According to the salon owner, nothing was missing from the business, although, she does wish to prosecute if the culprit is caught. March 27, 8:30 a.m. An unknown number of burglars reportedly shattered the front window of the Razor's Edge Hair Studio on Graham Road and stole a cash box and $190 in loose cash. Estimated loss: $590. Wedding ring goes missing in Red Lobster An Akron man told Cuyahoga Falls police he lost his wedding ring inside Red Lobster, 1090 Graham Road, the afternoon of March 23. Disgruntled Dad Screams Expletives Inside Elementary School: Crime Blotter

Police responded to Lincoln Elementary School March 15 to find a man who reportedly was shouting expletives with parents and children in earshot. Cuyahoga Falls police got the call about the man about 7:30 p.m. that day, but by the time they arrived, the man was nowhere to be found. The man had been threatening to beat up his ex-wife's current husband. According to the police report, officials planned to serve the man a court summons. Burglaries around the Falls Man uses forehead to dent police cruiser A 25-year-old man was charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal damaging after banging his forehead into the trunk of a police cruiser so hard that he left a dent in the trunk. Nurse Solicited For Sex While Giving Hospice Care: Crime Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) told Cuyahoga Falls police she was solicited for sex while giving hospice care to a person living in the 2800 block of Cedar Hill Road. The incidents occurred between Sept. 1, 2012, and March 18. The Crossroads Hospice worker reported that a man offered her money in return for sexual intercourse when she was providing hospice care to a patient at the patient's residence. She told police she was unsure whether she'd like to prosecute. Soliciting is a third-degree misdemeanor, according to the Cuyahoga Falls police report. Thieves Plunder Portage Crossing: Crime Blotter

Thieves hit up Portage Crossing recently and stole nearly $20,000 in construction supplies. A Thompson Electric employee told Cuyahoga Falls police someone stole five bundles of galvanized conduit (in 3-inch diameter) and eight sets of anchor bolts from the construction site near Portage Trail and State Road. Total estimated loss is $19,520. The items were stolen sometime between March 11 and March 18. Car break-ins around the Falls

They've been working at that site off and on since August of last year (2012). If you haven't noticed, there are signs all over the place, because part of the work was to widen the roads in the area. The mayor is doing a great job. It's just a sign of the times -- everyone is feeling the "crunch" and I'm sure it affects construction companies as well.   more ›

Nearly 70 people attended the first Neighborhood Excellence Initiative at Preston Elementary Wednesday night to discuss keeping crime out of their neighborhoods

If Cuyahoga Falls residents want to live in a safe community, what's keeping them from reporting crime in their neighborhoods? Police, court and city officials echoed one another Wednesday night in answering that question at the first Neighborhood Excellence Initiative meeting. It's simple: They're scared to speak up. "They're afraid to call the police because they don't want it to come back on them; they just don't know what to do" said Heather Shaw, a resident activist who's tired of seeing drug and crime activity in Cuyahoga Falls. Serial Bank Robber Sentenced for Holdups in Cuyahoga Falls

Benjamin G. Gates, 33, of Canton, was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison after appearing for a hearing in the federal courthouse Monday

A Canton man who robbed eight banks across Northeast Ohio — from North Canton to Cuyahoga Falls and Youngstown — was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison Monday. Benjamin G. Gates, 33, had been indicted in September and then in November pleaded guilty to eight counts of bank robbery in U.S. District Court Northern District of Ohio. “This sentence should send a clear message to those who would think about robbing a bank,” U.S. Attorney Steven M. The courts won't do anything but put a revolving door on the front of the jail. Nobody gets jail time anymore. They're given nothing that will keep them off the streets or do anything to stop them when they get out and are thinking about committing more crime.   more ›
