Woodridge High School is the 117th best high school in Ohio and 2,155st nationally, according to the annual rankings prepared by U.S. News & World Report. There are 242 public schools in Ohio. The school recieved the silver medal and was praised for its participation rate in Advanced Placement courses. Students are also 96 percent proficient in reading and 92 percent proficient in math, according to the magazine. Learn how U.S. News calculated the Best High Schools rankings. The Woodridge High School student was charged with underage possession of a weapon, but faces no disciplinary action from the Woodridge Local Schools district.
Editor’s note: The original post raised concern among readers over whether a gun was brought to Woodridge High School. According to school officials and Cuyahoga Falls police, there was never a gun on school grounds, nor was there any alarm among students, staff or faculty. On April 16 at 8:58 a.m., a Woodridge High School counselor notified Cuyahoga Falls police that a student had approached her and admitted to illegally purchasing a .357 magnum revolver from an unknown man in Akron. The 17-year-old student said he had buried the handgun near a creek in Cuyahoga Falls, and told police he and his brother had purchased it for self-defense, according to Falls Police Chief Tom Pozza. The community workshop takes place at 6:30 p.m. March 5 inside Woodridge High School
Have questions about the future of Woodridge schools? District officials have answers. The Woodridge Local School District will host a workshop starting at 6:30 p.m. March 5 at Woodridge High School to discuss issues facing the district. District administration will be on hand to address concerns from the community. The Cuyahoga Falls Police K-9 Unit conducted each search on Tuesday and Wednesday.
During a routine drug search, the Cuyahoga Falls Police K-9 Unit swept through Woodridge High School on Tuesday, and canvassed Cuyahoga Falls High School on Wednesday. The searches turned up no illegal drugs, according to AlertNow messages sent out by each district to its respective parents and students. While police conducted the sweep, students in each school were put on "Place and Secure" status. Place and secure is implemented to closely supervise students and to restrict their hallway movement, said Cuyahoga Falls High School Principal Anne Alfano.
