Are you ready for another season of Black Tiger football? Grab your black and gold gear and mark your calendars! The Cuyahoga Falls High School varsity football team will kick-off its season on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in Barberton. Keep this schedule handy by bookmarking it or you can always print it for your refridgerator.
Tigers fight to the end, but come up short versus Warriors.
Two straight losses weren't on Walsh Jesuit's agenda. The Warriors barely avoided their first losing streak of the season on Wednesday night at Twinsburg High School. Twinsburg, who entered the game with a 7-11 overall record, played the 15-2 Warriors evenly for the entire game. The only difference between the two teams existed in the final score. "They [his players] did everything that we wanted," said Twinsburg head coach Bob Pacsi. Twinsburg understood the level of competition that they were facing and played strong throughout the first quarter. Appleby, Lydic, Bartlett all advance to swim championships in Canton.
Cuyahoga Falls sophomore Andrew Appleby earned a spot in the Division I state swim meet with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard free at the Cleveland State district meet. Appleby swam a time of 47.70 to get the fifth and final automatic qualifying position in the state meet out of CSU. Teammate Ryan Hillyer also swam, posting a time of 50.10 - finishing in 21st place. Appleby's competitive finish was overshadowed by the dominant performance by Strongsville's Michael Meldon, who set a district-record with a time of 44.70. Appleby concluded his day at the district with a 1:45.07 in the 200 free, good enough for eighth place. Yesberger's key plays help Black Tigers win, 62-60.
Ryan Yesberger's clutch plays in overtime helped the Cuyahoga Falls High School boys basketball team to an exciting 62-60 win over visiting Solon on Tuesday night. His heroics wouldn't have been possible without a pass from freshman Josh Ricker to senior Kyle Rospert for a basket at the end of regulation that tied the score at 56. The victory was particularly sweet for coach Rob Slone, who has lamented the Black Tigers' inability to close out games. "Right now it does," Slone said when asked if the win erased some of the heartbreaking losses. Cuyahoga Falls improved to 5-11 while Solon dropped to 6-11.
