Nichols said students' extra access to the superintendent is proven to improve connectedness throughout schools
Students and parents in Cuyahoga Falls will have one more avenue to engage with the head of the school district. Superintendent Todd Nichols recently signed up for Twitter (follow him at @CFTMN) and says the extra access is proven to improve connectedness throughout schools. At a recent Cuyahoga Falls School Board meeting, Nichols said he has gotten some great ideas about school connectedness from the book "Getting Smart" by Tom Vander Ark, which concentrates on "the digital world and digital delivery." In reading the book, Nichols had been preparing for a trip to Bowling Green State University, where he would sit on a dissertation defense from one of his former administrators. "The dissertation is on school connectedness and the …

If approved, the district's permanent improvement levy would generate $11.1 million in revenue. Take a look at how the district will use that money over the next few years.
Cuyahoga Falls residents should have a clearer picture about how their tax dollars would be spent after Superintendent Todd Nichols gave a breakdown of levy dollars Monday night. If approved, the district's five-year, 3-mill levy permanent improvement levy would generate $11.1 million in revenue and cost homeowners $91.88 per year for every $100,000 in valuation. Nichols presented the Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education that night with a breakdown of how the levy dollars would be spent, from building to building, starting in 2014 and running through 2018. "As you can see, in the first three years, it is heavy on technology, heavy on things we can take with us, heavy on things that are our most-immediate needs, like safety/security, …

Cuyahoga Falls City School District officials said residents can expect billboards, mail cards, yard signs and op eds in their local media publications
District officials are about coming out swinging when it comes to the upcoming permanent improvement levy. Cuyahoga Falls City School officials are planning several ways to get the word out about why the district needs the five-year, 3-mill levy. And they only have about 70 days before the May 7 election (and even fewer before early voting starts April 2). "It's kind of a time crunch," Superintendent Todd Nichols said at Monday night's Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education meeting inside the high school. On the way are billboards, mail cards, yard signs and opinion pieces and advertisements in their local media publications by the end of March. Those will tout the reasons the district needs the levy, which was approved by the board in January …

The parents of seventh grader Emily Deyoung pulled their daughter from Bolich Middle School after a bully threatened her with violence.
After trying an in-school suspension to resolve a middle school bullying problem, Cuyahoga Falls City Schools has adopted a new policy and taken drastic measures to keep students safe. It started about a month ago when seventh grader Emily Deyoung confronted a bully at Bolich Middle School as he picked on one of her friends. He called her friend "fat." The boy, who was not publicly identified by the school district, threatened Deyoung and said he would "assault her, put her in crutches and burn her house down,” said Danielle Deyoung, Emily’s mother. The Deyoungs reported the incident to school officials, who told the boy to stop bullying her. Despite the punishment, the boy continued to threaten Emily, her parents said. So her parents, …

Leaving the Bucyrus district, he'll start in Cuyahoga Falls by Aug. 1
Todd Nichols has been named Superintendent of the Cuyahoga Falls City School District. Board of Education President Therese Dunphy said in an email, "Like you, we were truly impressed by Dr. Nichol's singular philosophy of meeting each student where they are at and moving them forward. His diverse educational background, strong financial skills, and experience as an educational and community leader resonated with us. Specifically, his ability to achieve an increase of more than 30 percent in the graduation rate during his tenure as high school principal at Mad River High School, his ability to bring technology into every classroom in Bucyrus City Schools, his extensive use of data (posted throughout various building hallways) to drive …
