Rockne's, with locations in Cuyahoga Falls, Akron and surrounding areas from Stow to North Canton to Fairlawn, has been a popular destination for years. It features a wide-ranging menu with popular salads ($4.49-$9.49) and sandwiches ($5.99-$7.99), soups ($4.29 or $5.29), pub specials ($7.99-$8.99), appetizers to share ($399-$9.95), jumbo burgers ($5.89-$7.69) and plenty more. On a recent visit to the Cuyahoga Falls Rockne's at 1203 Bailey Rd., a 6-ounce New York strip steak caught my eye. Local restaurateur Rockne Becker has opened a new eatery, and soon will move it to State Road.
It was St. Patrick's Day of 1981 when local restaurateur Rockne Becker hosted the grand opening of his new restaurant, Rockne's Pub, on Hudson Drive in Cuyahoga Falls. The seafood-heavy menu featured crabcakes, shrimp, fish stew and deli sandwiches, and the atmosphere offered diners a welcome change from its predecessor. Becker said the restaurant that came before his had "a colorful history," and in early 1982, Akron Beacon Journal reporter Jane Snow wrote that it was "a dive where patrons were entertained by fistfights while sipping beer." That was nearly 30 years ago, and Rockne's has since become a household name across Northeast Ohio. I love Rock Fresh - right near my home. Rockne is there and is the most personable host. He also has assembled a great staff who are so pleasant and attentive.
