Sweepstakes scheme An elderly woman living in the 3300 block of Reserve Drive was swindled out of $100,000 to $150,000 after sending money to several individuals who promised her millions of dollars in "winnings" through various sweepstakes. The woman had been sending money since September 2012. Car shenanigans on Morrison Avenue A woman in the 300 block of Morrison Avenue told police someone stuck wet cotton balls on her car, which is driven by her teenage daughter, sometime March 8. The day before, on the 7th, someone threw concrete inside the car and smeared it with "various substances," according to the police report. A Monroe Falls man faces a felony count of "harassment by an inmate" after spitting on a police officer and telling the officer he has AIDS or HIV. According to a Cuyahoga Falls police report, the 30-year-old man was charged with resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor, and harassment by an inmate, a fifth-degree felony. Police had pulled the man over under suspicion that he was driving under the influence. And, according to the report, the man "punched, pushed and pit at the officers while resisting his lawful arrest" about 10:15 a.m. March 1.

Things got physical when an Acme security guard confronted an alleged thief who was trying to flee the Bailey Road grocery store on Feb. 23. According to a Cuyahoga Falls police report, it started when a guard saw an 18-year-old Silver Lake resident stuff three bottles of alcohol into his jacket and leave the store. As the guard stopped him, the teenager reportedly closed his fist and punched him in the face. Police arrived on scene, arrested the teen and charged him with theft and underage possession of alcohol, both first-degree misdemeanors.

A daring car thief reportedly slipped through an open side door of a Howe Avenue home, grabbed keys and a pack of cigarettes and drove away in a resident's Jeep Wrangler. Estimated loss: $10,000. According to Cuyahoga Falls police, the theft occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 20. The 2003 Jeep is gold with a soft black top, and includes a front winch and U.S. Army spare wheel cover. A 42-year-old was hit with a string of misdemeanor charges after he allegedly slipped away from police and resisted arrest on Feb. 20 at 2:27 p.m. According to a Cuyahoga Falls police report, the man walked away from an officer while being cited for reckless driving, driving under suspension, open container and drunken driving. Police caught up with the man in a second-story Studio City apartment and handcuffed him. As an officer escorted him downstairs, he started to thrash and lunged forward, pulling himself and the officer down the stairwell. Out of luck Cuyahoga Falls police hit a dead end in the case of an 88-year-old resident who lost $200 in cash and a Dell laptop to a suspected thief. The elderly Cuyahoga Falls man -- who lives in the 100 block of Graham Road -- called police on Feb. 19 after realizing he'd been robbed of the cash and the $550 computer. Police had a female suspect, but the trail went cold after officers found out she had recently moved to Florida, according to the police report. Dude, where's my grille? On Feb. 19 around 9 a.m., an unidentified man reportedly pulled his truck into a driveway in the 1600 block of Bancroft Street, and proceeded to steal two grilles and a pair of outdoor fire pits from a residence. There are no leads or suspects.

Highly questionable behavior On Feb. 16 at 7:35 a.m., a 54-year-old Stow woman alerted Cuyahoga Falls police after she reportedly spotted a man masturbating while driving on State Route 8. With the tip, officers were able to find and arrest the 29-year-old Canton man. He was charged with public indecency, a third-degree misdemeanor, according to the Cuyahoga Falls police report. Valentine's Day misfortune An Akron woman called Cuyahoga Falls police and reported her Sandhill residence had been burglarized at about 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 14. The burglar smashed through the back door and made off with $2,200 in cash and valuables, according to the police report. The woman intends to prosecute if the crook is caught. Contemptible con A Verizon Wireless employee called a Cuyahoga Falls man last month after someone tried to sign up for a smart phone with his dead father's personal information, according to a Feb. 5 Cuyahoga Falls police report. Officers were unsure who attempted the contemptible con, and referred the man and his mother to the city's prosecutor. Better luck next time On Feb. 5, an unknown number of thieves kicked in the door of a Haas Avenue residence and tried to steal a Sentry Safe from inside the home. Sticky fingers A slippery thief crept into the bedroom of a Clover Avenue residence and stole $600 in cash, according to a Cuyahoga Falls police report. The quick score occurred sometime between Feb. 1 and Feb. 3. Police have a suspect, and the homeowner wants to prosecute. Boulevard burglar A burglar reportedly smashed through the side door of a home in the 1000 block of Broad Boulevard and stole everything they could find, including food, women's clothing and various household items, according to a Feb. 1 police report. The homeowner told police the residence had recently fallen into foreclosure and was unoccupied. Total loss: $900. Police are investigating.

Make way A 23-year-old Akron woman had a whirlwind night on Jan. 28 after she reportedly got drunk, yelled profanities and tried to punch someone at the corner of Lancaster and East Broadway Street. She also stripped off some of her clothing during the melee, and later jumped out of a moving car as a friend tried to take her home. In light of the shenanigans, she was cited for disorderly conduct and arrested, according to a Cuyahoga Falls police report.
