City Council Passes Ordinances, Turns to Redistricting

Council OKs 4 road projects, passes meth lab restitution and storm water rules.

The Cuyahoga Falls City Council passed four road project applications for funding through the Akron Metropolitan Transportation Study (AMATS) Monday night, including a new project to pave a short stretch of Main Street between Howe Avenue and the Akron city limits. All four passed on 10-0 votes, with Mark Ihasz absent. The Public Improvement Committee briefly convened to pass the Main Street project to the whole council because it has a November deadline for submission. The council passed an ordinance that will pass on the cost of emergency cleanup of toxic materials at meth lab raids to the meth lab operator or the owner of the property. Conviction in Meth Lab Raid

Silver Lake Avenue resident pleads guilty to manufacture of drugs charge.

Cuyahoga Falls resident John Richmond has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a police raid of his home in May on suspicion that he was running a methamphetamine lab in his home. According to the Summit County Common Pleas Courtillegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a third-degree felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of endangering children. The plea arrangement before Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Tammy O'Brien was approved on Sept. 16. Several other charges, including possessing criminal tools and possessing marijuana, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement, the court said.  Police in a press release issued after the arrest said, “On May 10, 2011, the Cuyahoga Falls Police …

Falls Police Discover Meth Lab in Trunk Over Weekend

An Akron man faces felony charges following a drug bust on Route 8. The following information was supplied by the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A traffic stop over the weekend turned into a drug bust after police discovered meth. Cuyahoga Falls Police report a patrol officer stopped a red, Dodge Neon at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, for speeding while traveling south on the State Route 8 Howe Avenue exit ramp. Police discovered the driver, Bright Rothhaas, 32, of Akron, was driving with suspended license and had a warrant out for his arrest in Tallmadge. Rothhaas was arrested after police found numerous items for manufacturing methamphetamine and the final product. Detectives from the Cuyahoga Falls Narcotics Unit, the Summit County Drug Task Force and the fire department responded to the incident, which shutdown the exit ramp for traffic for a little over an hour.
