"SimpleWash" is like washing your Facebook clean of signs of less-than-professional behavior
College students preparing to enter the workplace have to be concerned with much more than just résumés, cover letters and their wardrobes. Most students today have some type of online presence, and prospective employers often scan these digital footprints to see if there are any signs of less-than-professional behavior. Three Kent State University students recently developed a Web application to help those looking to clean up their acts – virtually speaking. Computer science majors Camden Fullmer, Daniel Gur and David Steinberg created FaceWash – now known as SimpleWash – in a weekend “hackathon,” a programming competition at the University of Pennsylvania that was held Jan. 18 – 20. Global Recognition The Web app allows users to easily…

Just hundreds left locally and online as of Thursday.
If you don't have a ticket by now, your chances are slim of watching in person as Kent State University battles Northern Illinois in the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championship game at Detroit's Ford Field. The deadline to order tickets through Kent State's ticket office was 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Kent State spokesperson Bob Burford said there were just a few hundred of the university's tickets for the game left as of noon Thursday. "Kent State’s ticket allotment for the Friday game was 3,000," Burford said. As of midday Thursday there were less than 200 tickets available for the game on StubHub.com. Ford Field has a seating capacity of 65,000, but it's likely only a few thousand lucky, local fans will actually watch the game from inside …

Thousands of Kent residents and Kent State University students and staff witnessed history Wednesday as President Barack Obama campaigned at the MACC. Hundreds more watched the president deliver his campaign speech on TV from an overflow space in the Kent State Student Center. And even hundreds more gathered on campus and around town to follow the president's visit online. Kendra Landfair was one of those lucky 6,600 people who watched from inside the MACC. Beforehand, she braved pouring rain and stood in line for almost six hours to get a glimpse of the president. "I never met a president before," Landfair, a Kent State student, said before Obama's speech. "I’m sick, my nose is running, my throat hurts. Once I get in there it will be …

Kent campaign stop one of two on college campuses in Northeast Ohio.
Some came to hear about the president's views on Medicare, Social Security, or women's healthcare. Some merely wished to see a sitting president in the flesh. But all braved a steady downpour on Wednesday to see the President Barack Obama speak at Kent State University. Obama came on stage shortly after 5:30 p.m. "Hello Kent State! Go Flashes!" he called to the roaring crowd. His remarks began by touching on themes of opportunity and success for the middle class. "This country succeeds when the middle class is growing, when there are ladders of opportunity for all people," he said. "We all believe that anybody is entitled to success in this country. Everybody’s got to work hard." The president also told the audience that U.S jobs and the …

President is scheduled to visit Kent State Wednesday
President Barack Obama's planned campaign stop in Kent on Wednesday may not prove as costly as recent stops in other small towns across the country. Kent Police Chief Michelle Lee said information remains scarce about the Democratic incumbent's scheduled visit, but he is expected to be in Kent by 3:50 p.m. Wednesday via the Akron-Canton Airport. Lee said the time may change. "That’s going to depend on where exactly he’s going to go," she said. "The plan is he’s going to be on the (Kent State University) campus somewhere." University officials haven't released any information about the stop and still had no comment when asked about the president's planned visit Friday. "We can neither confirm nor deny the report," Kent State spokesperson …

Democratic and Republican Cuyahoga Falls residents will be interested to know both presidential candidates plan to visit Northeast Ohio next week.
Local officials are remaining tight-lipped about President Barack Obama's planned visit to Kent next week. Kent Safety Director William Lillich said city officials were contacted by the president's administration Wednesday about the Democratic incumbent making a stop in the Tree City. Lillich said he was told the visit is expected to be next Wednesday, but at this point details are unclear about exactly when and where the president will make his campaign stop. "We’ve been informed when it’s likely to be and that it’s probably going to involve the (Kent State University) campus," Lillich said. "Beyond that, we don’t know." Lillich said the Secret Service would coordinate the visit with Kent police and fire administrators. Officials at Kent …
