According to school officials and Cuyahoga Falls police, there was never a gun on school grounds, nor was there any alarm among students, staff or faculty. On April 16 at 8:58 a.m., a Woodridge High School counselor notified Cuyahoga Falls police that a student had approached her and admitted to illegally purchasing a .357 magnum revolver from an unknown man in Akron. The 17-year-old student said he had buried the handgun near a creek in Cuyahoga Falls, and told police he and his brother had purchased it for self-defense, according to Falls Police Chief Tom Pozza. Both the U.S. Marshals and ATF are looking for Daniel Austin
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information that will lead to the capture of Daniel Austin, a fugitive who faces federal firearms charges. Austin, 31, is wanted by the U.S. Marshals and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Austin is accused of having a handgun on him when previously stopped by police. However, as a convicted felon, he is not allowed to own a firearm. According to the Task Force, the ATF picked up the case due to Austin’s extensive history of violent crime. Austin is about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. A squad of Cuyahoga Falls Police and SWAT team members arrested Brandon J. Richards at 1:15 a.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of Bath Heights Drive. Richards, 23, of Cuyahoga Falls, was arrested after he allegedly threatened his significant other with a handgun, and for dealing marijuana, said Falls Police Lt. Steve Guldeman. After speaking with the victim, police decided to deploy their SWAT team to assist in the arrest. When police executed a warrant and entered his residence at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Richards wasn't home. At 11:52 p.m. Friday, a handful of Pizza Hut employees got the scare of a lifetime when a pair of men sprinted up and tried to rob their business. According to a Cuyahoga Falls Police press release, a manager and two employees were taking a cigarette break outside of the pizza shop – located at 2893 State Rd. – as the robbers approached. One of the employees was grabbed around the neck from behind by one of the men and was ordered to get down on the ground. Police reported one of the men was holding a silver handgun. Thinking quickly, the manager ran into Pizza Hut and locked the door behind her, leaving the employees and robbers outside. A wrap-up of the latest crime reports in Cuyahoga Falls.
A woman called Cuyahoga Falls police at about 10 p.m. March 26 to report her brother-in-law was threatening her and her son with a firearm. When officers arrived at the apartment, in the 4300 block of Winter Parkway, Gerald Davis, 43, told police he had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana while handling the gun. Davis was arrested and charged with inducing panic, aggravated menacing, drug abuse and operating a weapon while under the influence. Hi James, you are correct. Also one on Portage Trail Ext. as well as one in North Hill near Howard st. This does not mean that the robbers are or are not from one of these areas though. We won't know unless they are caught. I wouldn't assume they are from AMHA.   more ›
