The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the checkpoint it announced earlier this week was will be in Portage County Saturday evening. The exact location of the drunken driving checkpoint will be known Saturday morning. Check Patch for an update. Edward South of Highpoint Lane in Cuyahoga Falls will be sentenced soon for two third-degree felonies after a jury found him guilty of operating a vehicle under the influence. Specifications were added to his charge for having five prior offenses in the last 20 years. “This is Mr. South’s twelfth OVI conviction in the last 25 years,” said Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh in a prepared statement. “He clearly has not learned his lesson and remains a danger to society as long as he has access to a vehicle and our roadways.” South, 70, has a prior felony OVI conviction from Portage County as well. South crashed into a pole on Dec. 26, 2012 in Cuyahoga Falls and walked away from the scene. No one was injured in the crash. Cuyahoga Falls police …

The county where the checkpoint will be set up will not be announced until the day prior to the operation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a press release Monday morning notifying the public that state troopers will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint sometime this week. The county where the checkpoint will be set up will be announced the day before and the exact location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," the patrol said in a prepared statement. Additional support for the checkpoint will be provided by local law enforcement agencies. Check Patch for updates when they are available.

A 40-year-old Cuyahoga Falls man was pulled over at the intersection of Graham and Fishcreek roads on Jan. 7 after running a red light, according to a Stow police report. The officer clocked Daniel Pivarski driving 60 mph in a 35 mph, zone, the report said. After running the red light, he was pulled over. Officers could tell Pivarski was heavily intoxicated and he was holding a mug with an iced mixed drink in it, the report said. Pivarski also had a jar with two small bags of marijuana in it. The man refused a breath test. Police charged Pivarski with drunken driving, speeding, running a red light and possession of drugs. Pivarski has three prior drunken driving convictions, according to police.

Picking a fight with a police officer: Twinsburg police had to use a taser on a drunken man—multiple times—after he tried to fight an officer on Dec. 15. Christopher L. Hoch, 29, of Twinsburg had been sleeping at a Ravenna Road bar, and got a little rowdy when police woke him up and asked him to leave. An officer used a taser on him after Hoch charged the officer and tried to hit him. His outburst continued in the police car and the jail, where he relieved himself on the walls. A 34-year-old Lakewood man was charged with drunken driving after he stopping to ask a Solon police officer for directions. At about 1 a.m. on Dec. 8, a Solon police officer parked at a gas station was approached by a man after a car pulled in behind him. Perry L. Comedian and radio personality Chad Zumock, who was charged with drunken driving after crashing his car into a tree in Lakewood on Friday, has been fired from his job at WMMS. The 37-year-old former co-host of the Alan Cox Show, who lives just a couple blocks away from the incident, was not injured in Friday's crash and refused to take a breathalyzer test. Zumock had performed just hours before the accident at the Funny Stop in Cuyahoga Falls. Cleveland radio personality and comedian Chad Zumock was arrested and charged with drunken driving in Lakewood early Friday morning, WEWS reports.'
