Police are investigating the death of a man found at his apartment early Thursday morning.
Cuyahoga Falls police responded to a call about an unresponsive 59-year-old man in a Tallmadge Road apartment around 12:40 a.m. Thursday. 19 Action News reports the man's body was found near the entrance of the apartment building at 840 Tallmadge Rd. Cuyahoga Falls police don't suspect foul play, the Akron Beacon Journal reports. The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct the autopsy. The Summit Metro Crash Response Team is rewriting the book on region-wide police investigations and how they can be undertaken with a virtually nonexistent budget.
The Summit Metro Crash Response Team isn’t your ordinary police unit. The team, comprised of 30 trained investigators from 15 local police departments, reconstructs complex crashes to determine — with a high degree of accuracy — the cause of major accidents, according to SMcRT Operations Commander Brian Battaglia. They’ve made recent headlines with reconstructions of high profile accidents and have gotten calls from cops across the state and country wanting to know just how they do it. “We’re one of if not the first multi-jurisdictional unit in the country that conducts these types of special crash investigations,” he said. Four burglaries, a breaking and entering incident and a gun theft were reported in Cuyahoga Falls last week alone. Here's what's known, according to Cuyahoga Falls police reports: March 27, 8:02 a.m. One or more burglars reportedly smashed through the front door of the Cuttin It Up beauty salon on Bailey Road and broke open a charity box located inside the store. According to the salon owner, nothing was missing from the business, although, she does wish to prosecute if the culprit is caught. Amateur film-makers busted Three teenagers were caught filming snowboarding jumps on the bathroom shelter at Valley Vista Park, 2790 Valley Road, about 1:08 a.m. March 26. The teens were charged with criminal mischief, according to a Cuyahoga Falls police report. The traffic crash at Bailey Road and Hollywood Avenue sent the motorist and two others to the hospital early Wednesday morning
A 25-year-old Stow man was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after running a stop sign, hitting a house and flipping his car. The motorist, Denae O. Fikes, was heading eastbound on Hollywood Avenue near Bailey Road about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday. Fikes ran a stop sign and his car struck another car that was driving southbound on Bailey Road, according to the traffic crash report at the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. The man's car then struck a house in the 3200 block of Bailey Road. It overturned and then hit a light pole and finally came to rest on the tree lawn of the house that it had hit. Woman uses counterfeit bill to post boyfriend's bail A woman wanted to post bail for her boyfriend March 15 but had a little hurdle to jump when one of her bills turned out to be counterfeit. The woman posted a $1,200 bond for her boyfriend's two Stow Municipal Court cases from 2011 with the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. The woman included one counterfeit $10 bill with her combination of $100, $50, $20 and $10 bills. Stow Municipal Clerk of Courts Diane Colavecchio did not wish to pursue prosecution. Colavecchio stated the $1,200 bond was modified by $10 to accommodate the counterfeit bill, according to the police report.
