Police: Funeral Service Purse Snatcher Arrested

Police report Raymond Jarvis was seen on video stealing purses from calling hours at local funeral homes, including one in Cuyahoga Falls.

Akron Police arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the theft of purses from several local funeral homes, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Raymond Jarvis, 49, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with several counts of receiving stolen property and forgery. Jarvis's last alleged theft took place at Ciriello-Carr Funeral Home in Fairlawn  on Nov. 14 where a woman's purse was stolen from the grieving room during a service. Similar thefts were also reported in Akron, Copley Township and Cuyahoga Falls.

Driver Plummets 25 Feet Into Cuyahoga River, Lives

Robert Buger, 50, walked away with minor injuries after he swerved to miss a deer and drove off Akron's North Portage Path bridge.

For the second time in three months, a vehicle lost control and flipped into the Cuyahoga River. On Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., the Akron Police and Fire Departments were alerted after a jogger spotted an overturned car under Akron's North Portage Path bridge near the Portage Trail/Akron Peninsula Road intersection, reports the Akron Beacon Journal. Emergency crews scrambled down to the car operating under the assumption that someone could be trapped in the wreckage. Cuyahoga Falls Police were also called to the scene to aid in the search, according to police radio dispatches. Police Searching Hampton Hills Metro Park for Missing Akron Woman

Susan Ramsdell, 48, has been missing since Wednesday morning. Her car was found in Hampton Hills Metro Park - Top O' the World area off West Bath Road in Cuyahoga Falls.

Akron Police are combing through sections of the Hampton Hills Metro Park for an Akron woman who's been missing since Wednesday morning. Susan Ramsdell Found Dead in Hampton Hills Metro Park Susan Ramsdell, 48, a French horn player and music teacher, "left a note inside her Akron home indicating she might be intent on committing suicide," reports the Akron Beacon Journal. Officers got a fresh lead on Thursday when they found her car in the Top O' the World recreation area, located at 1286 West Bath Road in Cuyahoga Falls. Teenager Arrested for Alleged Armed Robbery of Falls Woman

Love, 17, of Akron, was charged with aggravated robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and illegal weapon possession.

Derek Love, 17, of Akron, was arrested Monday in connection with last week's armed robbery of a 23-year-old Cuyahoga Falls woman. Love is being held at Summit County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and illegal weapon possession, reports the Akron Beacon Journal. His arrest came days after the Akron Police Department released a video of the gunpoint robbery, which was captured by an ATM camera. According to police, he had a .25 caliber pistol tucked in his pants pocket at the time of his arrest. Watch: Falls Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in Akron; Man Remains at Large

Earlier this week, a 23-year-old Cuyahoga Falls woman was robbed at gunpoint and Akron Police are asking for your help to identify one or more of the individuals involved in the crime. The holdup occurred at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday morning after a group of men approached her at a FirstMerit bank ATM at 1060 Kenmore Blvd. in Akron. According to police, one of the men pulled a gun, pointed it at her head and demanded her purse, which contained $20, cigarettes and car keys. After stealing the contents, the man threw the handbag down and fled.   The robber was described as a black man, 18 to 20 years old, about 5-foot-9, possibly with a thin mustache, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. Suspect Arrested in Fairlawn in Connection with Murder of Falls Man

Police took an Akron man into custody for the August 31 shooting death of Kim Stephen Slayko III.

Three law enforcement agencies nab a suspect in the murder of a Falls Army veteran. Akron police, the U.S. Marshals Office Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and Fairlawn police assisted in the arrest of Chad Stephens, 22, of Akron. Stephens was found in the 3200 block of West Market Street in Fairlawn Tuesday evening. He faces murder charges in connection with the shooting death of Falls Resident Kim Slayko. On August 31, Slayko was discovered in the backyard of a house in the 900 block of Baughman Street in Akron with a gunshot wound to the chest. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death as a homicide last week.
