Stow Officer and Cuyahoga Falls resident Jonathan V. Bastock passed away Feb. 5, 2011.
It is National Police Officer week and the Stow Police Department and the residents of Cuyahoga Falls are remembering their neighbor, friend and coworker Officer Jon Bastock who died in a duty-related death on February 5, 2011. Wednesday is National Peace Officers Day. The Stow Police Department shared a photo on Facebook of Bastock's name which was added on the Police Memorial wall in Judiciary Square in Washington, D.C. in May 2012. "President John F. Kennedy established May 15 as Police Memorial Day and the week in which it falls is Police Memorial Week a time in which all officers across the country cover their badges with black bands to honor those officers who have given their lives in the line of duty," Stow Police Chief Louis …

Edward South of Highpoint Lane in Cuyahoga Falls will be sentenced soon for two third-degree felonies after a jury found him guilty of operating a vehicle under the influence. Specifications were added to his charge for having five prior offenses in the last 20 years. “This is Mr. South’s twelfth OVI conviction in the last 25 years,” said Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh in a prepared statement. “He clearly has not learned his lesson and remains a danger to society as long as he has access to a vehicle and our roadways.” South, 70, has a prior felony OVI conviction from Portage County as well. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information which would lead to the capture of fugitive Dontez White.
Dontez White is wanted by the U.S. Marshals and the Lakewood Police for drug trafficking and firearms offenses, according to Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. White, 38, has a significant criminal history, officials said, and should be considered armed and dangerous. White is a black male standing approximately 5’06” and weighing 400 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. White is suspected to be hiding out somewhere in the Cleveland area. He also had a previous address near the 600 block of Willow Dr. in Euclid. The Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a press release Monday morning notifying the public that state troopers will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint sometime this week. The county where the checkpoint will be set up will be announced the day before and the exact location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," the patrol said in a prepared statement. STRONGSVILLE: Man Found Living in Woods A May 3 fire led to the discovery of someone living in the woods near the city recreation center. Firefighters were called to smoke on the east side of the building about 9:40 a.m. and reported to police that there was someone living there. Officers located a man walking to the area, who admitted to having a fort and cooking. He told police said he believed he had gotten permission to camp there. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information which would lead to the capture of fugitive Deandre Peterson.
Deandre Peterson is wanted by the U.S. Marshals and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff for escape, the Ohio Adult Parole Authority for conditions of release violations and the Cleveland Division of Police for domestic violence. Peterson had an original charge of drug possession. The domestic violence charge stems from an incident when Peterson kicked in the door at the home belonging to the mother of his child in January of this year. Peterson, 31, is a black male standing approximately 5’09” and weighing 183 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Authorities suspect Peterson is hiding out somewhere in Cleveland. Tiyosuljo Egler has already been convicted of illegally having a firearm despite being a felon.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information which would lead to the capture of fugitive Tiyosuljo Egler. Egler is wanted by the U.S. Marshals for violating the conditions of his supervised release. Egler was originally charged by the ATF for being a felon in possession of a firearm back in August of 2008 and was sentenced to two years and three months of prison with 3 years of supervised release to follow. Before that, he has been convicted of felony drug charges, attempted escape and robbery, according to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas web site. My daughter and I are friends of the Bastock family. My daughter often comments on how proud Jonathan would be of his sons and daughter and of course his wife for continuing to be the best that they can be without the patriarch of their family. Jonathan was a good man, an excellent father, and one of the best the police force had to offer.   more ›
