We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! I think If Teachers Spent More Time On Class Work And Less Time On Movies And Snack Time (Were TheyRead More Are Telling Me What To Feed My Kids), I May not Have To Spend Time After I Get Home From My Job Doing There Job.

He wants 5 months of e-mail? WTH is wrong with this guy? Isn't there an ambulance you can go chase?
Earl Elevant September 3, 2013 at 03:45 pm
Not really surprising he got no response, considering the superintendent and the board...althoughRead More certain members of the school board are not averse to suing to get what she wants, so she should understand this move. And to think they want money from the public while keeping them in the dark. HA!

Robarts Folly: if you had been paying any level of attention in the past few months, you'd know thatRead More Brad LeBeouf is working in the best interests of the children, as well as the taxpayers, of this city. Nichols et al need to stop behaving in such covert fashion and work in conjunction with the parents/teachers/citizens of Cuyahoga Falls. Lame, dated lawyer jokes don't apply here.

Don, why do we need the academy approach when the surrounding school systems that rated asRead More "excellent" and "excellent with distinction" don't need this academy system? Your thought precess is incorrect. With regard to running for the board, I have a job that requires me to be available 24/7. Can't do both or I would attempt it. The fact that I am not available however, does not preclude me from having an opinion about this mess. Also, nothing you have said here even begins to address the fact that this contract was approved in a manner that did not allow the parents an other citizens to have public comment on the subject. Back room, practically secret proceedings like this only serve to erode the public's trust. I think holding those responsible is a great place to begin holding people accountable. Listen, we are all reasonably intelligent people here. We have all been around long enough to understand that when some public official or entity passes or approves something in near secrecy, its almost hallways because those responsible know that the public would not support such a decision. Someone wants their toy, they know they aren't really allowed to have it, so they sneak it out of the toy box when mom and dad public can't see them. We all know what's really going on here.

Earl - Please learn the language of elections. Operating levies are for salaries, permanent leviesRead More are for "things" that have a life expectancy of 5 years or more. I am not a historian, but I believe the operating levy was several years ago. The State has laws on how schools can spend money. School treasurers are audited by the State to make sure funds are spent in the proper account (not if they are spent wisely), That includes shifting funds from one account to another! Our treasurer has been getting good reports, so he/she must be doing the job properly. I see you doing a lot of complaining. That's easy to do. What I don't see is your name on the ballot to fix the problem! If you have all the answers, why don't you run for the school board? Lots of openings this year! Put your money where your mouth is! It is "only" a part time job (with a lot of responsibility). Plus, you get to have all kinds of meetings to solve problems. Since you are the expert, that should be easy for you!

Scott - I agree that the board does not have the support of the citizens. The ONLY time they askRead More for support is at election time. Their meetings are not really public participation meetings, they are meetings IN public with very limited ability for public input. The board has not figured out that if they want support of ANYTHING, they need to let the public vent their opinions before the votes are taken - not after. Regarding academy approach - the current short school day approach isn't working. Union rules regarding on the job training DURING a 6 hour school day take away from student immersion in a subject - even if it is "only" on Wednesdays. Maybe the current educational plan isn't working because of the lack of motivation by students and parents to learn the meaningful subjects (other than band and chorus). Listen to the complaints - everybody is worried about the band in the academy system. No one seems to give a care about whether or not the students can get into a college without remedial courses. At least Todd is trying a different approach. Business as usual for his clientele isn't working. Maybe it does in the more affluent Districts, but not here. Repeating the same non-working plan is a plan for failure.

Thank god we have the NEAand the best administrators possible to run this school system into theRead More ground. It would be absurd to throw money at this problem with out first holding the board, the superintendent, and teachers accountable for their dismissal performance. I would recommend that the citizens who voted no on this levy turn their attention next toward voting in New board members as well as sacking the superintendent. Hopefully the new management can then deal with the under performing teachers. Maybe when all this has been accomplished, the students will again understand that they are not running the schools and that they are also expected to perform. Right now all these kids have to do to get a day off is make a false phone threat to the school. They aren't afraid of repercussions because to date, there haven't really been any repercussions. That is a sad commentary on the state of Cuyahoga Falls Schools, as well as the communities unwillingness to punish the responsible parties and set an example for the rest of our children. This whole thing is an absolute train wreck and it will stay that way until the citizens of this city demand change. Money is not the answer.

Thanks, Jerry. I absolutely agree, and acknowledge the huge responsibility the teachers have, bothRead More to our students and to the community.

It's good to see that kids are still having some fun in high school. We used to take chalk and makeRead More dead body outlines around the school, typically in the crosswalks. Once our assistant principal saw us and she laughed. She was wondering where all our handiwork was coming from. She told us to just make sure we don't get hurt making them. I know, that wouldn't go over well in this time of oversensitivity. There's nothing wrong with harmless creativity.

Yes, nothing wrong with stealing from businesses and people yards and breaking things. We are allRead More overly sensitive.

I'm sure the answer--especially with the upcoming levy--is to throw money at the problem. NO on theRead More levy.

LOL Earl looks like someone needs a diaper change. Don't be mad when the 'tards being churned out ofRead More this anus of a school are running amok in your front lawn. Wait, do trailers have lawns?

Go to any building. They do not want the money, they NEED the money. Pay now or pay later. TheRead More district is financially prudent.

To: Amanda and all of the other kind people interested in the performance of the people aroundRead More them, Given the capacity to report performance (aka Report Card) in a digital manner, we now need to know how to use the performance report. In the short term, this initiative may seem like a useful way (low cost way) to satisfy a repeating pattern of the past 100 years of using report cards. In the long term, this initative has much more power develop the people in our community. If we have the power over someone to punish them for not meeting our expectations then the likely result is to create fear and anger. Alternatively, if we use our power to positively reinforce someone for meeting their expectations (not ours) then we become part of their support system and we create trust and respect. Like fire, digital tools are extremely powerful -- to help or harm. You may want to develop an online group to discuss this topic in depth.

The only hope to raise the Falls grade is to throw money at it. Here comes the levy...

I have no problem with paying a higher tax rate to have a better school district though, it attractsRead More families that value it and makes C-Falls a more desirable city to live in.
