Anne Arundel, Maryland – Classes were canceled at middle school after a pack of two dogs chased three deer into the building, mauling the deer so severely that they were euthanized.

Anne Arundel County Police were called to the school about 3:50 a.m. on the report of an alarm. When police arrived they found a front door with a broken glass and chairs knocked over inside the lobby. Officers then came across a deer down on the floor being attacked by a German shepherd.

In another doorway police found a second deer sitting on the floor, injured from apparent bite marks. A second dog, possibly a black Labrador mix, later appeared inside the school.

Animal Control Officers eventually gained control of the German shepherd and Lab mix, securing them in their van. Neither dog was wearing a collar when it was captured, police said.

One deer died from its injuries and another was euthanized because it was so badly injured.

School officials decided to cancel classes. The owners of the dogs were located and the dogs are in the custody of Animal Control.

The dogs owner should be liable for the damage and the dogs should probably be euthanized.

Catherine Lawlor-Traxell, thank you for your intelligent remarks; seeing cruel comments making this incident a 'joke' is a reflection of humanity's faults, not its greatness.

It is a shame that something like this becomes a subject of 'joke' to those that think this is funny. This is not at all funny...nor is it a joke. There were innocent animals severely injured, that lost their lives, and a family that should be made liable for these damages caused by their running loose dogs. As an animal advocate I am continuously fighting for stronger laws that protect all parties concerned especially the innocent animals that have no voice. Because of these irresponsible dog owners, its very possible these dogs may loose their lives. At the very least they should be made to pay restitution for these damages to the school.

I'll keep that in mind (innocent animals severely injured) this fall while I'm out deer hunting. Bambi on the grill, MMMMMMM good.

All of this concern for wild animals is touching, too bad you don't have the same concern for the people in this world. They were deer, wild deer to boot, dogs are prey driven and have been for over 100,000 years. I would make the dog owners pay for the glass and that is it. Would you all be so up in arms if were coyotes or wolves getting these deer? No, why not ya bunch of hypocrites...
