Summa Western Reserve Hospital Volunteers Receive United Way Honors for Service

Summa Western Reserve Hospital volunteers, David and Marilyn Townsend (Stow, OH), Karen Sauerbrey (Stow, OH) and Charlene Marciniak (Cuyahoga Fall, OH) were recently honored by the United Way of Summit County for their dedication and commitment to the region at the 12th Annual Volunteer Celebration on April 23rd at the St. Joseph’s Family Center in Akron, OH. The event was part of the United Way’s National Volunteer Week activities to commend those who go above and beyond in their communities by giving of the time and talents at local businesses and organizations.

Last year, Summa Western Reserve Hospital volunteers collectively served over 27,650 hours, providing vital assistance to guests and staff alike. David and Marilyn Townsend of Stow, OH served 1,350 of those hours together. Karen Sauerbrey of Stow, OH served 1,834 hours and Charlene Marciniak of Cuyahoga Falls, OH served 634 hours.

Summa Western Reserve Hospital volunteers assist in a variety of roles ranging from clerical support in areas such as medical records, human resources, administration and patient transportation and guest services to helping usher patients to appointment locations. Volunteers also provide assistance on nursing floors, surgical wings, and outpatient departments.

During the volunteer celebration, those being honored were treated to a special dinner presentation. Profile videos chronicling volunteer service stories of individuals or groups were displayed as well. Special accolades commemorating each honoree’s commitment and valiant efforts to serve others in their area were also awarded.
