Warriors Advance Three To State Swim Meet

Simpson, Geyer, Margheret; all relay teams move on to Canton.

The girls swim team had a pair of individual automatic qualifiers to the Division II state championships along with its 200-yard medley relay finish in the top three at the Division II district meet on Friday (Feb. 18) at Cleveland State. Next stop for the Warriors is the state meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

The Warriors had a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard breast with Danielle Margheret claiming the Division II district title with a time of 1 minute, 4.98 seconds and Brittany Geyer taking second in 1:06.35 for automatic qualification to the state meet.

Another automatic qualification to the state meet for the Warriors goes to their 200 medley relay as Geyer, Margheret, Rosalie Woolf and Lauren Tullis swam a 1:50.54 to place second.

The Warriors received an at-large spot for their 200 free relay. Walsh was sixth with a 1:43.08 using Margheret, Andrea Cleveland, Woolf and Tullis while Hawken won in 1:35.81.

The entire field, including at-large selections to the state meet, was announced Sunday morning by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Walsh, sixth in team scoring with 153 points in a meet won going away by Hawken with 469 points, also had a fifth-place finish in the 200 individual medley from Geyer with a 2:09.38. She would earn an at-large spot in the state meet in this event.

The Warrior boys, who were fourth with 147 points where University School won (540 points), had a fourth-place finish from Joe Simpson. His 53.98 in the 100 fly was good for 17th place (of 24 state at-large slots available). Walsh also had high finishes from its 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

The Warrior 200 medley relay was sixth with a 1:42.97 using Tanner Schodowski, Ben Boshkos, Simpson and Nick Yager while US won in 1:34.48. Walsh then placed fourth in the 200 free relay in 1:37.32 behind Michael Mausser, Yager, Michael Petras and Bryan Kirkpatrick as US again won with a 1:25.58.

Both relay teams advance to the State meet.

In diving, the Warriors had a 11-12 finish from Alex Bergsneider (265.30 points) and Cole Francetic (260.75). Alex Lohiser of Gilmour Academy won the event with a 445.50 points.

The Division II state meet in Canton will have diving starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Swimming prelims will be Thursday and finals scheduled for Friday. Starting times are slated for 5 p.m.
