Extreme makeovers are usually reserved for unfashionable folks or hundred year old homes, but every once in a while, there's an exception to the rule.
In this case, two dozen DeWitt PTA members convened at the to breathe new life into the decades-old teacher's lounge.
Led by PTA president Stephanie Ball, the volunteers hit local do-it-yourself stores, purchased $1,500 in materials and worked all weekend long to remodel the drab and outdated decor for teacher appreciaion week.
They lugged out old furniture, cleaned, scrubbed, painted, nailed in new picture frames and set up modern chairs, tables and shelves.
"We've been planning this since September," said Ball on Sunday as final touches were applied to the new and improved room. "We really wanted to show our thanks and knew this would be the way to do it."
Teachers received the surprise as they walked into school on Monday morning, said volunteer Megan Blosser.
"The big reveal was a hit," she said. "The teachers love their new lounge and there might have been a happy tear or two."
