Cuyahoga Falls High School on 'Place and Secure Status'

Good afternoon, 

Friday's events in Connecticut were tragically disturbing to everyone; especially those who have children and/or grandchildren in school. At times like these, we convene our administrative team and communicate with the police department which we did this morning. Today and throughout the week, you will notice an increased presence of our Cuyahoga Falls Police Department. We hope the increased presence provides our students, staff, and parents greater peace of mind. 

In a review of our safety plans, we have identified three additional levels of security that will be put into place. First, our buildings have been far too accessible; thus, each building principal has been asked to identify one point of entry and to institute procedures to monitor the entrance. Unfortunately, the design of our buildings are such that this will pose an incovenience and our visitors may have to walk a distance to obtain access. Please be patient with us. Second, our staff is being asked to lock and close their doors during instruction and to open their doors during passing time. As we have seen, tragedy happens in those classrooms that are easily accessible. Third, we will continue to allocate resources such that our video surveillance systems can be upgraded and monitored. 

While we recognize that we cannot ensure safety at all levels, we hope that the institution of several levels of defense will thwart any attempts; and, in the event something does happen, minimizes the loss. 

Please continue to work together as a community and alert us if you notice anything suspicious, hearing anything suspicious, or have suggestions. For those who have called this weekend and today, thank you. We will attempt to contact you individually.
