Cuyahoga Falls School Board Appoints New Treasurer

The Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education appointed David Hoskin, 4-1, in a special meeting on Monday night.

There's a new numbers man in town.

At a special meeting on Monday night, the voted 4-1 to hire David Hoskin as the district's new treasurer. Board member Curtis Grimes was the dissenting vote.

Hoskin, who's served as treasurer of the Newbury Local School system since 2004, will start his three-year contract on July 1, said board president Dave Rump.

He'll earn $85,000 per year.

Following the vote, Hoskin stood to address the board and public.

"I look forward to the opportunity to serve the children of the district because that's what it's all about," he said. "Without the kids, we don't have a job and we need to keep them in mind everyday in everything we do."

"I'm really looking forward to working with David," said Rump. "He's a good man, he's going to be a very big asset to our district."

Interim treasurer/CFO Jerry Zelenka will man the post until June 30. Zelenka had signed on this past January after Kathryn Sines resigned to become treasurer of the Hudson City Schools.

Before resigning, that may serve as Hoskin's first budgetary challenge over the next several school years.
