Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education Appoints New Member

The school board spent the last month interviewing 12 candidates and arrived at its final decision on whom to pick at a special meeting on Monday night.

The has selected Karen Schofield to .

The motion – raised by board president Dave Rump – was approved unanimously in a special board meeting on Monday night.

“We had a lot of very capable candidates and we appreciate everybody’s interest in filling this spot, but I think we’re all looking forward to working with Karen,” said board member Dale Petty.

According to board member Barb Gunter, Schofield was the right choice given her 35 years in education and her recent contributions to the district.

“I’m looking forward to working with the board and serving the children of the district,” said Schofield minutes after getting the news on Monday. “I’m just as excited as can be.”

Schofield spent 21 years in the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District as a teacher, curriculum specialist and building principal, and the next 14 years in Kent as a director of elementary and middle school education, she said.

Since retiring in 2008, Schofield has served on the Cuyahoga Falls PT21 Strategic Planning Committee, the High School Principal’s Advisory Committee and the Redistricting Committee.

“I saw this opportunity on the board to serve in a different capacity, and I look forward to what lies ahead,” she said.

Schofield will serve out the remainder of Grimes’s term which expires on Dec. 31, 2013, said Rump.
