Ward Redrawings Move Forward

Council must adjust wards to reflect Census data.

An ad hoc committee formed to adjust Cuyahoga Falls city wards to conform to 2010 Census figures passed its recommendations forward for further consideration, but not without some discussion and dissent at Monday evening’s City Council meeting.

Adjustments to districts and wards are made after each 10-year Census to reflect shifts in local populations.

Councilman Don Walters, chairman of the ad hoc redistricting committee, proposed shifting moving the boundaries of Ward 5 into parts of existing Ward 8, among other moves.

This and other moves received some resistance from council members Mary Ellen Pyke and Carol Klinger as well as Jeff Iula. Council members took turns advocating the “Plan A” presented over the past few weeks by Walters or three alternative plans presented by other council members.

The ordinance, B-119, now goes to the Public Affairs Committee.
