DAM UPDATE: Cuyahoga River Flowing at Dangerously High Level

Intemperate weather has pushed the deconstruction date back yet again.

Updated July 10, 2:56 p.m.

As a result of persistent storms, the Cuyahoga River is now flowing at a dangerously high 1,500 cubic feet per second, said Cuyahoga Falls Deputy Service Director Teresa Hazlett.

The water flow will need to dip to around 200 cubic feet per second  before workers can safely begin to demolish the Sheraton Mill Dam, said service director Valerie Wax Carr.

Due to Monday night's thunderstorms, the Sheraton Dam removal, originally scheduled for Tuesday morning, has been delayed.

"At this moment, the weather is unpredictable and we are going moment to moment. However, we are still hopeful that work will begin this week," said Cuyahoga Falls City Service Director Valerie Wax Carr in a prepared statement.

As of Monday afternoon, the weather seemed to cooperate for crews planning to start working on the removal of the Sheraton dam.

The city said in a press release that initial test cuts were happening on Monday. On Tuesday, between 9 and 11 a.m., initial hammering and vibration monitoring would happen.

If all of the tests are successful, the demolition of the dam is expected to immediately follow Tuesday.
