Patch Readers Discuss: Mother Delivers 'Miracle Baby' After Failed Abortion

Cuyahoga Falls Patch readers had lots to say when they heard a Falls mom thought she had terminated her pregnancy, then realized after the procedure that she was still pregnant

Patch readers had a lot to say about this one.

This week Cuyahoga Falls Patch posted an update about a Cuyahoga Falls woman who went through the abortion process but then gave birth to a healthy 6-pound baby after the procedure.

The Akron Beacon Journal wrote an extensive story about Ariel Knights' experience. She told the paper she went through the abortion process because doctors believed her life was in danger.

Months after going to the Akron abortion clinic, she was surprised to learn she was still pregnant. Knights told the ABJ that she is pro-choice because of her medical conditions.

After the C-section, the baby girl was closely observed for breathing problems — but the mom and child are both reportedly healthy.

Knights, 22, recently filed a lawsuit against Akron Women's Medical Group for the failed procedure last March. According to the ABJ story, Knights is hoping her lawsuit will prompt better treatment for other women seeking an abortion

Here's what Patch readers are saying on Facebook about the story:

  • Devin Hetrick-Rogers: Lawsuit? Really? Obviously, that baby wanted life and someone upstairs thought so too!
  • Sara Glenny: She should be thanking them for botching the hatchet job. How will that child feel when she learns that her mother sued someone for failing to "terminate" her?
  • Amanda Dolby: Regardless of her reason for the abortion, it's no ones place to judge. Period. That is a choice that concerns her and her family. Not yours.
  • Mallory Van Snick: I completely understand where her decision stemmed and I don't fault her for that. My question is, if she knew that getting pregnant in the future could put her life at such a risk, why didn't she opt (or her doctor suggest) a tubal ligation after the birth of her son?
