Nursing Home Plans Move Forward

Development gets green light from City Council.

Work has begun on land that will be the home of a nursing home on West Bath Road.

There was a sense of urgency in the Nov. 7 City Council meeting, during which the council approved a plan for the development of a at 185 W. Bath Rd.

The developer was eager to begin work on the site while the weather would permit, although concerned neighbors wanted assurances from developer Steve Krutowsky and City Planning Director Fred Guerra that their neighborhood would not be adversely affected by the development in what is now woodlands.

After a lengthy discussion between neighboring residents and Guerra and Krutowsky, the council moved the ordinance out of committee and brought it to a vote by the City Council, which passed it by unanimous vote.

Although the final plans have yet to be approved, some tree-clearing has begun on the site adjacent to the High Hampton Drive subdivision.

Guerra said some tree-clearing is permitted now, although grading land would be premature without final planning and zoning approval.
