Hen Farming Coming to Cuyahoga Falls?

Cuyahoga Falls Planning and Zoning Director Fred Guerra said the city is entertaining the idea of allowing small hen farms in the city's more residential areas.

Would it ruffle some feathers if your neighbors were allowed to raise a handful of hens in their backyard?

Sometime this year, city officials will likely consider whether residents should have the ability to raise and keep three to four hens on their property, said Cuyahoga Falls Planning and Zoning Director Fred Guerra.

According to city code, most residents are banned from keeping small hen farms. Those who are allowed live on larger tracts of land that fall under either national park or rural residential zoning.

Guerra said restrictions would "probably" be loosened to offer the option of small-time hen farming in more residential areas of the city.

He specified roosters would not be permitted, and said his department would consider types of permissible outdoor hen houses that could be constructed.
