City Council to Hold Series of Meetings Tonight

Cuyahoga Falls City Council has a jam-packed agenda for this evening, starting with a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. at the . The hearing will be followed by a special council meeting and council committee meetings.
Public hearing
Council will hold a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the 2011-2012 Community Development Block Grant annual action plan. The amendment involves reallocating infrastructure funding from the Germaine Street project to the project.

Special council meeting
Council will vote on a measure that would re-draw city ward boundaries to make them substantially equal in population based on 2010 U.S. Census figures, while also keeping ward representatives within the districts to which they were elected.

An ad hoc redistricting committee created in mid-September to adjust Cuyahoga Falls city wards held numerous meetings that resulted in four proposals for shifting ward boundaries.
On Nov. 21, council voted to move forward with "Map A," created by Councilman Don Walters, chair of the ad hoc committee. However, several members expressed concern about how that redistricting plan would affect residents.
On Nov. 28, council tabled its decision on "Map A" because a was needed before a vote could be taken.
"The majority of the committee felt that 'Map A' was the better choice for our residents since it met the guidelines of the charter and displaced less people and less area," Walters said today.
"'Map A' also kept more of the former Northampton in Ward 8 as it was previously, more neighborhoods intact, and left the Portage Crossings area of ward boundaries unchanged," he added.
Committee meetings
Council members will consider the following legislation:
- An ordinance establishing annual appropriations of money for the current expenses, capital expenditures and other expenses of the city of for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2012.
- An ordinance authorizing the service director to enter into a three-year contract without competitive bidding with Genuine Parts Co. for the .
- An ordinance authorizing the service director to enter into a contract for cleaning services at the Municipal Building.
- An ordinance authorizing the service director to enter into a contract for the purchase of preventive maintenance and repair services related to specialized vehicles and equipment used by the Sanitation
Department.
- An ordinance authorizing the finance director to enter into a contract without competitive bidding with Comdoc Inc., for the lease of printers, copy machines and facsimile machines for up to five years.
- An ordinance authorizing the mayor to enter into a contract without competitive bidding with Finley Fire Equipment Co. Inc. for weekly vehicle maintenance services.
- An ordinance authorizing the law director to enter into a contract with Mazanec, Raskin & Ryder Co., LPA, for legal services related to pending and potential tort and employment litigation.
