City Council Approves Final Ward Map and Supports School Levy

Monday's meeting included minor construction, ward map final approval and more.

At Monday night's meeting, gave final approval of the ward map and descriptions. It was a close 6-to-5 vote in favor.

"This ordinance originally passed in 2011," Councilmember Don Walters reminded council. "This is merely a cleanup of the ward legal descriptions."

Next council meeting, Feb. 6, council members will look at a resolution expressing support of Issue #10. The issue is a tax levy for 6.83 mills and will be on the March 6 ballot.

Budget

Joseph Brodzinski, finance director, projected the city will spend about $1 million more than it takes in for 2012. This is partially because of state budget cuts, which begin this year and mean less money coming in.

Other Business

Council passed the following resolutions and ordinances Monday:

  • The appropriation of property necessary to improve State Road between Graham Road and Steels Corners Road.
  • The authorization to enter into contract with Kenmore Construction for emergency repairs to Akron-Peninsula Road's embankment north of Ira Road.
  • The agreement with Tallmadge to allow them to use, at a cost, Cuyahoga Falls prisoner confinement services.
