Census Releases New Data on Cuyahoga Falls

Falls growth slow and steady over past decade

The Census Bureau released data of the 2010 census today, showing Cuyahoga Falls grew in the 10-year period between 2000 and 2010, but only by 278 people.

Unlike larger urban cities such as Cleveland, Cuyahoga Falls showed relative stability in its population.

in 2010 the median age in Cuyahoga Falls was 39.4 years. The median age of the male population was 37.8 in 2010, and the median female population was 40.9.  The median age was 38.8 for all of Ohio. In 2000, the Cuyahoga Falls median age was 37.2.

Broader census data suggest that as the baby ages, the median age tends to climb as well. The first baby boomers are now in their 60s.

Cuyahoga Falls continues to have a large white majority population, 46,398, or 93.4 percent of the population. In 2000, the figures were 47,300, or 95.8 percent. Black or African Americans numbered 1,642 in 2010, or 3.3 percent. In 2000, black or African Americans numbered 923, 1.9 percent of the population.

In 2010, Asians numbered 573, or 2.1 percent of the population. In 2000, Asians numbered 520, or 1.1 percent of the Cuyahoga Falls population. Hispanics or Latinos (any race) in 2010 numbered 672, or 1.4 percent. In 2000, Hispanic or Latinos numbered 309, 0.6 percent of the population. 

There were 22,250 households in 2010; of those, 12,693, or 57 percent, were family households. There were 9,557, or 43 percent, nonfamily households. Average household size was 2.21, and average family size was 2.90.
