Suspected Heroin Addiction Leads to Overdose, Attempted Suicide by Train

The following was culled from Cuyahoga Falls police reports and radio dispatches on Aug. 13 and 16. It does not indicate a conviction.

  • A suicidal man reportedly stood between the railroad tracks along Broad Boulevard early Thursday morning and waited for a train to run him over; however, a friend intervened and pulled the man off the tracks as a locomotive approached, according to radio dispatches. The man fled, called his girlfriend and said he was still intent on committing suicide. CSX shut down all northbound and southbound railroad traffic while police searched for him. Following a brief foot chase, he was detained. It appeared the man was intoxicated and possibly going through heroin withdrawal.  
  • Cuyahoga Falls police got a call Monday evening about a suspected heroin overdose on the 1900 block of High Street. EMS, along with Falls police officers, rushed to the scene. Paramedics found a 23-year-old man lying unconscious on the floor of the residence and worked to revive him. The man was stabilized and taken to Two burnt spoons and other drug paraphernalia were found at the scene. Police are investigating.
