Rockne's Breaking and Entering; Repeat Meat Offender; Sweepstakes Scheme: Crime Blotter

Sweepstakes scheme

An elderly woman living in the 3300 block of Reserve Drive was swindled out of $100,000 to $150,000 after sending money to several individuals who promised her millions of dollars in "winnings" through various sweepstakes. The woman had been sending money since September 2012.

Car shenanigans on Morrison Avenue

A woman in the 300 block of Morrison Avenue told police someone stuck wet cotton balls on her car, which is driven by her teenage daughter, sometime March 8. The day before, on the 7th, someone threw concrete inside the car and smeared it with "various substances," according to the police report.

Repeat meat offender

A man who was told never to come back to the Giant Eagle at 230 Howe Avenue was caught with seven steaks under his shirt and was arrested for theft about 12:30 p.m. March 9. The man was attempting to steal about $88 in meat and now faces charges of theft and criminal trespassing.

Rockne's breaking and entering

Someone broke into the Rockne's restaurant at 1203 Bailey Road about 12:27 a.m. March 7 and stole 30 gift certificates. The person had thrown a rock through a window in order to enter the building. Loss is estimated at $435, while estimated damage to the building was unknown.
