UPDATE: Power Restored to Thousands of Cuyahoga Falls Residents

The Cuyahoga Falls Electric Department worked quickly to get its system back online following Wednesday's severe thunderstorm.

The Cuyahoga Falls Electric Department worked quickly, restoring power to thousands of residents following Wednesday afternoon's severe storm.

Utility superintendent Mike Dougherty said the outages were caused by lightning strikes and falling trees which knocked out power lines.

Power should be restored soon to any remaining residents who are still in the dark.

A house at 335 Broad Blvd. has been struck by lightning and there is a large hole in the roof, according to Cuyahoga Falls police dispatch.

There's also flooding throughout the city, especially near the Schwebel Baking Company on Newberry Street, according to police radio traffic.

The Akron and Cuyahoga Falls Fire Departments have cleared a small fire that started at the Office Max located at 370 Howe Ave.

Also, traffic lights are out on Graham and State Roads due to the power outage.

The severe thunderstorms in the area have knocked out power across the city.

According to Cuyahoga Falls Police dispatch, several power outages have been reported.

Areas affected include: along Graham Road and Hudson Drive, State Road by Cochran Drive, and Portage Trail Extension near Valley Road.

Dispatchers are forwarding the outage reports from the city residents to the city's electric department.

Cuyahoga Falls Electric department is working to restore power.

They cannot estimate how long it would take to restore power.
