Police: Payless ShoeSource Clerk Wards off Suspected Robber

Travis E. Washington, 40, of Akron, was arrested by Cuyahoga Falls police after allegedly trying to rob the State Road Payless store.

A suspected robber was arrested by Cuyahoga Falls police this week after he allegedly tried to hold up a local Payless ShoeSource.

At about 4:19 p.m. Monday, Travis E. Washington, 40, of Akron, walked into the Payless, located at 1963 State Rd., and demanded money from the lone clerk behind the counter, according to the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department Facebook page.

The clerk reportedly told Washington the alarm had been tripped, prompting him to flee the store without any cash.

Washington was charged with attempted robbery and obstruction of justice, both third-degree felonies.

The obstruction charge was issued after Washington gave a fake name to police to reportedly conceal the fact that the Akron Police Department had issued a separate felony robbery warrant for his arrest.

He was taken to Summit County Jail and will be arraigned Aug. 20 in Stow Municipal Court.

This is the second robbery incident that has taken place at the local shoe store this summer.
