No Foul Play Suspected in Cuyahoga River Death

Police say Cuyahoga Falls woman's fall into river appears to be accidental, but await autopsy report.

Chief Tom Pozza is waiting on autopsy results for the Wednesday morning.

Pozza said the Cuyahoga Falls woman, 46-year-old Dianna Dyak, was "partying" with her companion at the near Bailey and Front streets.

“At one point the victim had to go to the bathroom, so apparently she squatted near the river, when she stood back up, she lost her balance and fell into the river,” Pozza said.

The man who was with her jumped into the river to save her, but due to her size and physical impairments, she traveled down stream too quickly, Pozza said.  The man told her to hold onto a tree branch while he sought help. Pozza said he unsuccessfully looked for a friend he thought was there, then walked to the River Front Grille and asked the bartender to call 911.

Pozza estimates Dyak had been in the water for 45 minutes to 90 minutes before emergency medical workers arrived. She was found dead in the water.

“The river is pretty cold still right now, so she could have died from hypothermia, we just don’t know,” he said.

Pozza said foul play is not suspected, but he's waiting on the autopsy results to be sure.
