On March 8, an elderly man called police after realizing he had been scammed out of $2,400. About a month ago, the Norma Street resident received a letter in the mail, saying he had won $100,000. All he had to do was cash a $2,400 check, included with the sweepstakes materials, and mail the money to Spain. He followed the directions, but was recently told by his bank that the cashed check was fraudulent. The bank will not be refunding the lost cash.
