Neighbors Say They Were Scammed

A resident of Tallmadge Road contacted the on March 3 after learning that an unknown suspect had visited a number of his neighbors without his knowledge to solicit contributions to benefit his daughter, who suffers from Leukemia. Police say the suspects used the money to buy cigarettes and lottery tickets at a nearby gas station. Detectives have a lead on who the suspects might be.

In other crime news, a man called 911 late March 6 to tell police that an unknown black male shattered the front window of his home and pointed a gun in his direction, demanding entry to the residence. The victim, who lives on the 4800 block of State Rd., told police that he saw another male on his back porch as he fled to a neighbor's house across the street. Nothing was missing from the residence, but the broken window saw $300 worth of damage.

Jessica M. Hinkle, an Akron resident, was arrested around midnight March 3 at the corner of Portage Trail and State Road and charged with receiving stolen property. Hinkle was stopped by Cuyahoga Falls Police officers while driving a red 1999 Ford Taurus with stolen registration plates. Also, she was charged with possession of methamphetamines after a small amount of the illegal substance was found under the driver's seat of the vehicle.

Theft:

• Early March 1, an employee of Gardens of Western Reserve Assisted Living Residence, located at 45 Chart Rd., reported $600 worth of cash and checks stolen from her purse.

• A woman living in an apartment on Center Ave. reported early March 3 that an unknown suspect had smashed in the driver's side window of her red 2009 Pontiac G5 and removed her TomTom GPS navigational device. The window damage is valued at approximately $250 and the unaccounted for GPS device is worth $100.

• A Munroe Falls Avenue resident reported the front headlight missing from his 2000 Cadillac STS the evening of March 5. The vehicle was parked in front of Sam's Club on Buchholzer Boulevard when the headlight, worth $300, was removed.

• In the early morning hours of March 7, a woman told police that when she arrived at her silver 2005 Jeep Liberty on Northland Street, she noticed her GPS device, the faceplate to her stereo, and a bottle of prescription medication had been removed from the vehicle. The items are valued at $350.

Burglary:

• A resident of the 2000 block of 10th St. reported late March 4 that an unknown suspect entered his home via an unlocked window and removed a 37-inch Insignia LCD television and a Playstation 3 gaming system, controller, and video game. The items are worth more than $1,100.

• At 3 a.m. March 6, a woman living on the 2300 block of Suncrest Dr. told Cuyahoga Falls Police officers that someone entered her unlocked residence and took two laptop computers, various video games and her wallet. The stolen items and wallet contents are valued at $834.
