As Shumaker was taken into custody, his juvenile passenger sprung from the car and ran from police. Officers gave chase and saw him throw contents from his pockets. The 17-year-old hurdled several backyard fences along 17th Street before being nabbed near Byrd Avenue.

Following a search of Shumaker’s car, they found a large bag of marijuana, a scale and materials to package the drugs.
