Water Main Rupture Washes Out Portion of Graham Road

Water crews hope to have lines repaired by morning. Road repair will take longer.

Two ruptured water mains washed out Graham Road between Prange Drive and Lillis Drive early Friday evening and disrupted water service in the area as well.

Water was gushing up through buckled chunks of pavement at 6:30 p.m. as crews scurried to dig out the ruptured lines – a 16-inch main and a 6-inch supply line – and start repairs.

Initially thought to have been caused by heavy rain, the washed out road forced the closure of Graham Road between Prange and Lillis and traffic is being detoured through Prange and Lillis via Silver Lake Avenue.

A message left on the Cuyahoga Falls Water Department phone confirmed that the problem was a water main had broken and that local residents could experience "low or no water pressure." Residents who have urgent needs regarding water should call the police non-emergency number, 330-928-2181.

City water crews hope to have the water service restored by morning, but repairing and repaving Graham Road could take considerably longer. The pavement was severely buckled in places, with some pavement completely washed away. Dirty water ran down the street, indicating likely erosion of the road's base underneath the pavement.
