A man claiming to be a Western Union technician scammed Discount Drug Mart out of more than $800 on Jan 7—and he never even had to stop by the store.
Shortly after 5:15 p.m., an unknown man called the store and spoke with one of the clerks. He claimed to be a Western Union technician and said he needed the clerk to do some updates on the machine.
Within five minutes, the employee had transferred $888.88 to a pre-paid Visa card without realizing, according to the police report.
The store wants to prosecute the matter.
