UPDATE Teen Dies After Cuyahoga River Rescue Effort

The Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department reports the status of the victim is not known.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's office is now investigating the death of a teen pulled from the Cuyahoga River. The teen is identified as Davion McCail, 16, of Akron. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.

Two men fishing nearby told Cuyahoga Falls Patch they saw two teens swimming and jumping from the Doodlebug Bridge. David Dixon, of Green, said he noticed the swimmers jumping from the rocks near the portion of the bridge closest to Front Street.

New Information as of 8:20 p.m. Wednesday:

The Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department received a report of a submerged male swimmer in the river at about 4 p.m.

“We had multiple eyewitnesses confirming the ‘last seen point’,” Lt. Travis Strausser said in a department press release. ‘We do not know his outcome at this time.”

After talking with witnesses, the Falls divers immediately began their search for the victim.  He was found about 50 minutes after the time of the call.
