'Dark Knight' Suspect Indicted on Felony Weapons Charges

Smith to appear Tuesday in court for preliminary hearing after taking a gun, ammunition, knives and "survival equipment" into a Cleveland-area movie theater earlier this month.

Scott A. Smith was indicted on weapons charges Monday after being arrested with a loaded gun, ammunition and four knives at an Aug. 4 showing of The Dark Knight Rises at in .

The current charges listed at the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas docket are a fourth-degree felony carrying concealed weapons (for the gun found on him), a misdemeanor carrying concealed weapon (for the four knives found on him) and a third-degree felony for having weapons under disability (for the gun on him as well as the ones taken from his home).

The prosecution is basing the weapons under disability charge on the claim that Smith has some kind of substance abuse issue.

Smith has been in jail -- first in Westlake, then at the Cuyahoga County Jail -- since his arrest on Aug. 4. He is being held on $250,000 bond.

Smith is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. Tuesday. According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, his arraignment is set for 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27.

More details as they become available.

Coverage of the incident:

We'd like to hear from Cuyahoga Falls Patch readers. What do you make of this Cleveland-area incident? Will you think twice before entering another movie theater?

I will be avoiding movie theaters for the time being. I think its wrong for anyone to possess the type of arsenal of weapons that this guy had. Gun ownership and gun hoarding has been spreading like a disease in our society. Its time for people to stand up to the NRA and put a stop to this insanity.

Every season I wonder what Louis Vuitton Handbags will create. I know I won’t like everything, but I can count on Louis Vuitton to make a few bags that are absolutely lust-worthy, it’s just what they do. When we shared a closer look at their Spring 2012 collection, I remember not being entirely impressed. Of course there was a theme – lightness and femininity paired with a whimsical touch – but as many have said, the bags look like they are made out of plastic (which they aren’t, just look at the price tags).
But nestled into this collection is a perfect summer piece, the Louis Vuitton Speedy North South bag. Nautical blue and cream calfskin leather offset one another in a take on the Louis Vuitton Online Outlet house classic.

Just amazes me that people can't take responsibility, blame everyone else because they are too lazyRead More to be aware of what is going on, if you are that concerned about flag day, then you would think you would know when it is or just google it, all the information is available, it is so sad how our country has the blame everyone else attitude, wake up and take personal responsibility

Nolan,Why should a person even have to check a calendar to see when a holiday is. The media blastsRead More relentlessly on everything else that doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Yet when it comes to flying the flag the are MUM. That is what I am talking about. Like Dean said. Maybe peoplw don't display flags because they didn't know. Dean, what's the media for, if not getting the word out? Are they there to just sit on their butts and let people wonder what they really do? Talk about being responsible, I think the media should be responsible for getting the word out. They need to do something for their pay.

We were very fortunate to have the Humane Society take them. They should be available for adoptionRead More soon. I am just deeply saddened that people can do something like this with no concern for the dogs' welfare and to thrust that responsibility onto others who can't stand by and do nothing.

I agree, this is inconsiderate and unkind. I would wish that people would not treat their animalsRead More so, but that remains a wish. However, I am thankful that something worse did not happen. At least at the park, someone was there who was kindhearted enough to take action. I shudder to think of the "other" possibilities.
