Breaking & Entering for a Cocktail: Best of the Blotter

Here are some of the weirdest police reports from departments across the region

Here are this week's most bizarre police calls, reports and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

I pay the bills here — A Lakewood woman found a strange, drunk man in her home on July 30 — one who insisted he had a right to be there.

The woman told police he of her Newman Avenue home at 6 a.m. The man was smoking a cigarette and said he had the right to be there because he had been paying bills there for a month.

Lakewood Police arrested him for trespassing and public intoxication.

No place like home? — It takes a lot for a mother to turn away her son.

In Solon, a woman did just that recently when police attempted to bring her 51-year-old son home after he caused a drunken disturbance at Station 43 on Aurora Road. When officers took him to a home on Edgemoor Avenue, his mother even though they share the residence together.

"No, don't take him here," she said, according to the report.

He then began verbally disparaging his mother, leading to his arrest. He has been charged with disorderly contact.

He needed a drink — A Willoughby man allegedly broke into a Mentor bar a week ago, but he was more concerned with whiskey than money.

Mentor Police received a call that someone had broken into at 4:30 a.m. July 29. Upon arrival, they saw 23-year-old Angelo Vitolo . Bar owners said they had never seen the man before.

Officers arrested him for theft and breaking and entering. The next morning, he ripped a smoke detector from the ceiling of his jail cell and pushed it in the toilet. That earned him a vandalism charge.

I want a potato! — Stow Police .

He was at Wendy's around 9 p.m. and became irate when an employee told him the restaurant was out of potatoes. He began shouting profanities, prompting the staff to call police.

He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
