Moms Talk: From Hot Mess to Hot Mama

Our Moms Council wants you to share your summer beauty tips this week

So the humidity has turned your hair into a rat's nest, that blouse you threw on this morning is stuck to you (gross, I know), you've been running the kids from the pool to the playground and back home again, and you haven't seen a mirror in who knows how long.

Ah, yes, it's summertime!

Perhaps it was the summertime heat that influenced this week's question, but our Moms want you to answer this: How do you look "put together" when you don't have a whole lot of time to dress yourself up? And not to mention the heat! How do you combat that and turn yourself into a hot mama instead of looking like a hot mess?

I throw a little flower clip in my hair, lipgloss and sunglasses. No matter if I throw my hair up in a pony or twist, I feel like if I have that flower it looks like I took some time to do my hair.

Hey, some of us are "hot" mamas no matter what the temperature is outside. All of you young ones will get there one day. You just comb your hair, rinse your face off and put a little lip gloss on. As Oprah's makeup artist stated "You should always have something on your lips to brighten your face."

Here are some of my favorite tips: Look bright-eyed using a soft, white liner, gently trace the inner corner of your eye. Then, using a pale shimmer shadow, soften that "V" and extend it a bit toward the inner part of the bridge of your nose. You'll lighten up the eye area and draw attention away from dark circles. I swear by this and it works wonders! Put your moisturizer in the fridge. It's a nice pick-me-up in the morning and in mid-afternoon. Mascara, mascara, mascara! This wakes you up and takes 20 seconds to accomplish. In a hurry and don't have time? Here's trick I learned from a good friend and makeup artist; dab a bit of Vaseline on your finger and brush it on your lashes. Also, a great cheap lip gloss. I've done this when I am working out and don't want makeup on, but still want to look fresh-faced. Lastly, smooth your eyebrows into place, drink lots of H20 and smile! Voila—one hot mama!

I agree with Lisa about the eyes. I have learned to love concealer under and in the corner of my eyes to hide dark circles. I also love blush and a little bronzer since my skin doesn't have much natural color (and I use sunscreen nearly everyday). Today I felt extra 'hot mama' ish in a flowy skirt. I bought it for cheap at Target and it is nothing special, but it looks like I've got things together and keeps me cool in the sun and while I am doing chores. I also have a few necklaces from http://www.etsy.com/shop/mylilmarket that really dress up my outfits and the length is adjustable which is really nice when you're busy. Thanks for all the tips! I surely need this!

Ah, hair accessories. That's something I hadn't thought about. Thanks, Kyla!
