Kathleen Broughton Sauser, World Traveler Loved by Many, Dies at 60

Sauser is survived by many loving family members and friends.

Kathleen Broughton Sauser, 60, of Peninsula, passed away on Monday, July 2.

Sauser was raised in Peninsula, Ohio and Belfast, Ireland. She graduated from Woodridge High School and attended Texas Women's University. She became ill with multiple sclerosis at the age of 24 and battled the disease for 36 years, according to the

During periods of remission, she raised goats near Dubuque, Iowa, visited Nepal while studying Anthropology and Sociology at The University of Akron, and scuba dived in the Caribbean. She lived for three years in Barbados and 10 years on a boat in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands. After a two-year stretch in Hawaii, Kathleen returned to Ohio due to poor health. She spent the last decade in area nursing homes, including a four-year stay at the Arbors in Fairlawn.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Lorin Broughton. She is survived by her siblings, Betty Reinhart, Marie Lloyd and Lorin Broughton; nieces Mary Booth and Kelly Peters Shauna Lentell, Jennifer Burge, Heather Ramariz; nephews John Johnston and Tony Ritter.

Kathleen has requested no calling hours and after cremation she will be interred with her parents at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in a private family service. Memorials may be made to The Peninsula United Methodist Church, 1575 Main St., Peninsula, OH 44264.
