Is parenting to blame for bullying?

Is the lack of parenting int he early childhood of students directly to blame for today's bullying behaviors?

Bullying, well it's a term that has been used a lot lately, especially in our area. With all the protests and all the new groups that have been put into place to stop bullying. But do my readers really know what bullying is?

According to dictionary.com a bully is "a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people.” That is basically saying that a bully is a more powerful person who likes to scare a younger or more weaker person. But did you know what the old meaning of a bully is? The dictionary tells us that the word bully used to mean a good friend or a good fellow.

What has happened to this term that used to be a term of endearment? I personally belive that the bullying that people are seeing today results directly in the parenting of the child. I know when i grew up that i was taught that bullying and being mean to others would not be tolerated. I believe if more children grew up in the same household as i did, there would be no, or less, bullying.

IT STARTS AT HOME. It's plain and simple. Bullying will never go away but if the parents took a proactive roll there would not be as much bullying as there is today.
